All you need to know bout Viscom!!!
“Viscom?”
Hello Anchal! What are you doing right now?
I’m studying Viscom…(after the stare from the other person , I had to say) Visual Commmunication.
Oh I see! So what exactly is it ?
It’s a media related course.
What’s the duration? Is it a degree course?
It’s a 3 year B.Sc degree course.
Hmmm..so what all do you study in this course?
Journalism , Advertising , Photography , Videography , Editing , Computer software and other things related to media.
Sounds very interesting , but what about the job prospects?
We can get into ad agencies , PR(public relations) , TV channels , news agencies , animation or film making…it depends on each individual.
Anchal so we can expect to see you in some chanels after 3 to 4 years , right?

That was a pretty long conversation but one can’t help speaking for so long when most do not know what Visual Communication is all about . However this entire conversation would have been cut short if the topic was engineering or medicine.“Visual Communication” can be termed as a new entrant in today’s cvolleges , being just 6 to 8 years old even though Mass Communication , BA Journalism , other specialized courses like film making have established their mark long ago.
Visual Communication , as the name suggests is “communication through visuals”. Communication as generally considered is not confined to speech alone , rather it includes all the aspects wherein thoughts are conveyed and messages are exchanged. And that’s how advertising , journalism , photographs , films being the tools of coomunication constitutes the broad realm of Visual Comunication. But then one may may wonder why can’t it be just Communication rather than Visual Communication. ‘We tend to believe what we see’ , goes the popular saying and in the field of communication this saying holds a lot of prominence. For instance , in films the audience get hooked to their seats due to appealing visuals and the customers are lured to buy the products through attractive ads.Visuals are not only known for their appeal and color but also for their authenticity. Thus the course “ Visual Communication or popularly known as “ Viscom”.
In today’s media driven world , media is yet to gain popularity as most people do not know the wide exciting range of opportunities offered by the media. One of the major reasons why Viscom is not popular with the masses is that one does not know what he/ she will become after studying this course . It’s well understood that if one studies B.Tech / B.E , he/she would become an engineer , if it’s medicine- a doctor or if it’s LLB- a lawyer but what if Viscom – a “Viscomite??” Here’s where Viscom proves to challenge other professional fields. There’s a host of names that you can call yourself - a journalist , an editor , a copywriter , visualiser , production executive , cinematographer and lots more.In today’s competitive world every organization demands that an individual specializes in his own field and the same holdsd true for a media organization as well.The second factor can be cited as the fear of a steady income. As usual in the beginning of every job one can’t expect huge perks , but once your skills get noticed and your work gets accomplished, then there’s no looking back. Unlike the 9 to 5 workplace , people in a media organization do not stick to any rigid schedule or time table but that does not mean they are not disciplined or organized.
Today’s well established professionals , be it a visualizer , a film maker or a sound engineer regret that they were not able to attain proper foundation during their good old days. But the new generation is lucky enough to have a lot more opportunities knocking at their door.”Heights of Creativity” is the apt description for Viscom. Those of you who want to carve a niche for yourself and have the zeal to mould your creativity level to any extent , media is the best place to be in and Visual Communication is the best course you can opt for graduation. Friends, if you are aiming for a 2 in 1 package – MONEY & FAME in your professional life , then be a Viscomite and discover a whole new life.
